Nicole Ari Parker, an American actor, who has appeared on film and on television, as well as on stage is best known for her role as Teri Joseph, a flamboyant attorney featured in the show on Showtime called Soul Food. The actress is known under her husband's name, Nikki Kodjoe. As a child, she was a naturally talented actor. In the Maryland competition for high school students she took home the award for the Best Actress. Contractor, who was born and raised by his parents in Nigeria and Mumbai before he turned seven, had traveled around the world and experienced various cultures while growing up. She was educated in an boarding school in London between the ages of 7 and 9 years. Later, her family moved away from London in Toronto, Canada. Contractor studied classical ballet in Toronto. She also excelled academically. She was a student at the Etobicoke School of the Arts in Toronto, an arts school which focuses on theater and dance. At the age of 16 after a decade of years of dancing, Contractor realized she wanted to pursue acting seriously. She received a full-scholarship grant to pursue a degree at the University of Toronto after graduating. The university offered her master's degree in theatre and double majored in sociology and psychology. Following a semester at the University, Contractor went to an open audition for the play Pericles at the world-class and renowned Stratford Shakespeare Festival [Ontario, Canada and got the lead role. The show she played in 92 performances earned praise from Canadian critics. She was offered the opportunity to enroll in the Stratford Conservatory, which accepts only eight men and four woman to study traditional theatre. Contractor was ecstatically accepted. Contractor received a guaranteed slot for the following season, and was offered the role of Hermia.
